Former art gallery owner Laetitia Ventura has created Mono Editions, a new design brand store that presents modular furniture designs by architects, crafted, and focused on pieces made with single materials, defined by a sustainable approach.
The opening exhibition features minimal, modular furniture in recycled paper pulp and cork by Gramme Studio and William Ventura Architecture.
The brand’s manifesto outlines its ambition “to limit the production chain in order to create design objects that are first and foremost accessible and sustainable objects of desire.”
Its furniture creations are imagined to be durable both from a manufacturing and aesthetic point of view, celebrating materials and craftsmanship.
The two inaugural collections consist of minimal furniture pieces in modular forms.
The Liege collection comprises modular furniture — console, table, and bookcase — made of dark cork.
According to the architect/ designer William Ventura, “the pieces combine the spontaneity of art with the durability of architecture.”
The modular nature of the Liege collection is expanded by the possibility of taking each piece apart, for example, to change the legs’ height on the table or console, or to add to the bookcase so that the piece can evolve with the interior of a space.
The Papierre collection by Romain Freychet and Antoine Prax of Gramme Design Studio “defies gravity,” thanks to the appearance of white stone and the lightness of paper.
Having the look of carved rocks, the geometric, grooved monoliths are inspired by classical architecture and their simple forms become a lamp, a chair, and two tables.
These pieces as the architects claim, “evoke the aura of totems: the aesthetic borders on the spiritual. The architecture is combined with the sculptural.”
