Kristof De Bock from Dasein Products collaborates with El Decora International to create Planck—a new elegant coffee table that is fairly small and movable.

Planck’s design has been awarded a 2020 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Planck is a movable wooden eyecatcher, made out of Polish Pine plywood as the designer wants to create a unique coffee table different in form and materials.

Polished pine plywood is used in an unconventional way by bonding it together on the flat sides.

The surfaces are sandpapered and treated with a matte yet very strong varnish.
This gave the possibility to make a robust and elegant-looking object at the same time.
Seen from the side, one sets eyes on a block of wood, and seen from the front one looks at an elegant, 2-level object since the inside of the table is hollow-which is very practical for placing magazines or plaids.

Due to the strength of the material, the thickness of the levels can be reduced to a thin line.
The designer narrows it down to 17mm, and still, a full-grown man can stand οn the middle of the table; it won’t bend a bit.

A lot of time is spent on finding the bullet wheels. Metal wheels are strongest, but make a lot of noise on a stone floor.
So the designer comes up with small nylon wheels, but lots of them. In total, 16 are placed under each table.
