Johannes Budde’s new indoor/outdoor stools are handmade from the industrial concrete composite material Concrete Canvas®.
Draped in concrete canvas, the stools embrace organic forms and unique textures.
Pushing the boundaries of innovative materials, Rug’n Roll’s soft-looking drapery illustrates the physical and aesthetic potential of the material, which creates a fascinating symbiosis with the actual mechanical strength of concrete.
In its initial state, the grey, rug-like material can be shaped as desired—from highly static to dynamic forms.
Once it is watered, the shape stiffens within 24 hours.
Essentially, it is “concrete on a roll,” which allows for unlimited creativity in its application.
The natural creases and waves evoke immediate associations with a flexible rug.
When touching the dried shape, it surprises me with its durability and stability.
The production of the stools is characterized by a zero-waste approach.
Thanks to Rug’n Roll, an industrial material finds access to interior design and has high potential to establish in the market due to its versatility and longevity.
Rug’n Roll is available in black, white, red, yellow, and navy.
