With the sustainable solid-wood construction of Alva, the Austrian designer pushes the material to its limit and reveals new aspects of its potential by for instance using the torsion abilities of massive oak/ ash wood to reach a high level of rigidity.
ALVA shelf unit was recently awarded a Good Design 2021 by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.”
The optically fragile outer structure is wrapped around the storage boards which are milled using state-of-the-art CNC technology.
The slates act as a static exoskeleton due to the torsion resulting in a highly rigid and lightweight construction.
Alva makes an ideal room divider, but it can also be used as shelving beside a sofa or armchair, while the round shelf provides a smart solution for corner storage.
