Moscow, Russia

Rising from the post-industrial landscape of Moscow’s former ZIL automotive factory, the Collection Museum transforms a symbol of Soviet-era manufacturing into a vibrant hub of contemporary culture. This expansive site, once dedicated to car production, has evolved into a dynamic multifunctional residential district, with the museum poised to anchor it as the neighborhood’s beating cultural heart.
The Collection Museum at ZILART Complex by SPEECH architectural office, received an 2025 International Architecture Honourable Mention from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

The museum’s striking form—a monolithic cubic volume enveloped in a looped trapezoidal grid of copper cladding—evokes both industrial grit and futuristic elegance. The copper finish not only weathers gracefully over time but also ties into the site’s manufacturing heritage, creating a dialogue between past and present.
The ground level reimagines accessibility as an invitation, functioning as a lively public piazza. Visitors enter through a welcoming atrium bathed in natural light, adorned with bold copper elements and vibrant graffiti murals by four renowned street artists. Adjacent amenities include a wardrobe, restrooms, a curated souvenir and bookshop, an interactive zone for hands-on engagement, and a flexible conference room ideal for lectures, workshops, or community events.

Spanning the second through fifth floors, the exhibition halls offer versatile spaces for contemporary art across genres like painting, graphics, sculpture, and immersive installations. Each hall features innovative transformable partitions—enabled by four integrated doors—allowing seamless reconfiguration into two or four smaller venues. This adaptability supports diverse programming, from solo retrospectives to large-scale group shows, ensuring the museum remains a responsive platform for global artistic dialogue.
