American Prize for Design Laureate Norman Foster and Artemide have launched their latest project during Milan’s Salone del Mobile 2022.
IXA is a flexible and dynamic LED lamp allowing it to inhabit different typologies of light – from task focussed lighting to decorative and ambient compositions.
IXA’s design is inspired by Alexander Calder’s sculptures, the design interprets the idea of “elegant balance” through precision engineering.
The designers play around with weight and movement and brought the human-centered approach that Artemide has become known for.
There’s also a pretty flexible and personalized approach to their design as users are able to adjust the fixtures to their needs and preferences.
The IXA collection includes table, floor, and wall configurations.
The first phase of the collection offers a 100-millimeter opaque sphere, for focused settings, in four unique colorways: charcoal, slip, crane and ink.
The floor and wall configurations include a spherical head which is counterbalanced by a spherical weight at the opposing end of a slender stem.
The head is connected to the stem through a magnetic socket that allows tactile rotation to any orientation, while the jack connections at each junction allow for further flexibility.
The second phase of the collection includes a larger translucent sphere for more ambient lighting configurations.
