Portal Lighting collection by Fluxwerx Illumination is a reimagination of directional and general area illumination in a single fixture family, using breakthrough proprietary optics technology that distributes light, transforming point source into pure architectural geometry.
This project has been awarded a 2021 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Designed for maximum versatility and providing clear continuity, Portal is available in two diameters — 5-and-a-half inches and 9 inches, and a range of mounting options — fully-recessed, semi-recessed, surface, and pendant.
Portal can be used in all ceiling conditions. It takes the concept of a completely see-through form and makes it its own.
Multiple optics and beam options transcend typical point source applications with exceptional uniformity, lower energy densities, and maximum visual comfort with efficacies up to 150 lm/w.
The goal was to find a way to deliver the appropriate amount of light into the architectural environment while also balancing it with the visual experience.
This is achieved by turning the source inside out, shifting the usually bright central point source to the outer periphery of Portal’s leading edge.
The result is a highly efficient and controlled extraction of light, available 5 wattages, in 80CRI + 90CRI, and 4 CCT choices.
Portal’s proprietary optical technology defines a minimalist, differentiated circular aesthetic that is both discrete and bold.
Portal Recessed is designed to integrate into any plenum substrate with a minimum depth of 1⁄2” and a maximum depth of 1.5” and can be chosen in either Trim or Trimless versions – perhaps the ultimate expression of modern minimalism and discreet design.
Extending just 3.5” from the ceiling plane, the Semi-Recessed version is available in fixed and field-adjustable versions.
The Semi-Recessed Adjustable perfectly mirrors its fixed companion while also featuring 360-degree rotation and 90-degree vertical tilt to provide even more ways to use Portal in design projects.
Portal Pendant line combines both the exceptionally controlled lower hemisphere direct beam spreads of all the other Portal variations, with a valuable and powerful indirect distribution.
The Pendant version in both 5.5″ and 9″ diameters allows for the inclusion of either 50% or 20% introduction of the light into the upper hemisphere with the balance in the lower hemisphere.
This extends the functionality of the Portal family, delivering both direct or decorative lighting options as well as general ambient illumination when combining Direct and Indirect elements.
Multiple diameters, forms, and connection options to integrate into the architecture open up the broadest array of ways to apply Portal.
The elegance of the Portal family is inherent in the consistency of size and distribution options across all the luminaires options, therefore offering great design continuity.
The advantage of Portal is in removing architectural barriers, allowing attachment to the structure regardless of architectural elements or constraints. With the Portal Lighting collection, a convention is turned inside out.
