The urban development history of Tin Shui Wai resembles a tabula rasa that has transformed into a flat surface bustling with various activities.
The proposed design considers the site’s long-standing undeveloped nature.
Rather than opposing the existing overscale urban design, the concept aims to enhance it by introducing different floating levels.
Swimming Pool Complex and Open Space in Area 107 by HKSAR Government, won an 2025 International Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

These layers provide sheltered waiting areas below while creating new platforms for activities above.
The design maintains a strong relationship between the wetland park and Tin Sau Road Park by following the existing urban axis.
Careful consideration is given to building orientation to minimize environmental impact.
The building’s bulk is intentionally kept low to preserve openness, creating a public void within the area.

The design facilitates the juxtaposition of the swimming pool with diverse local activities such as farming, resulting in an enriched and dynamic environment.
Visual transparency is maintained, allowing spectators to observe the pool area while providing an informal platform for bird viewing, with a backdrop of Shenzhen visible in the distance.
Layers are strategically punctured to allow natural light, connections & ventilation throughout the space.
The use of brick and vertical greenery draws inspiration from the local rural tactile materiality.
The rippled ceiling and GRC elements extend the imagery of the pool’s water surface.
To promote an edible landscape, a herb garden is positioned on the roof.
Sustainability is well considered and integrated in the project.
Play and fitness equipment is strategically placed, providing an “overscale” feature within the urban area.
Overall, the design seeks to harmoniously integrate with the existing urban context while offering unique and engaging spaces for various activities and users.
