Mexico City, D.F., México
Casa en Tepoztlán is a sprawling residence by Alvear Arquitectos for Empresaria in a small mountain town near Mexico City known for its famous archaeological site.
At the request of the client, Alvear Arquitectos designed a 1,000-square-meter residence on a 5,500 square-meter site.
The site offers breathtaking views towards the “Tepozteco,” a mountain with an archaeological site and one of the main attractions in Tepoztlán.
Casa en Tepoztlán has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Awards Honorable Mention by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Tepoztlán is a small, beautiful town, one hour’s drive from Mexico City.
With lush sub-tropical vegetation on the site, the house explores the relationship between interior-exterior.
A series of water features and an integral landscape design aim to bring a relaxing experience to this weekend dwelling.
Meanwhile, due to the pandemic, the family decided to take over the house as their full-time house.
The use of local materials or those typically used in the town of Tepoztlán took center stage, such as stone, adobe, and quarry.
Likewise, some materials that are normally made of wood were replaced by steel elements, offering a tremendous advantage in longevity and adaptability to structural standards, as the house is located in a highly seismic zone.
The house has five bedrooms, three for the family and two for visitors, a guard room, game room, dining room, kitchen, outdoor dining room, outdoor living room, small cinema, barbecue, pool, and other amenities.
