The Dräger X-plore 8300 is the new entry-level particulate Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR), combining performance with ease of use, compact size, and superior cleanability.
X-plore 8300 by Dräger, won a 2025 Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.
Every aspect has been carefully considered, from its innovative form-factor to its user-friendly features.
The simple interface ensures ease of operation, while the service-friendly construction allows for easy maintenance. Additionally, the PAPR can be cleaned in an industrial dishwasher.
X-plore 8300 is a true step-change in the PAPR industry. Its compact size doesn’t compromise on performance, boasting a high flow rate and improved decontamination due to its IP67 rating, surpassing current industry standards.

X-plore 8300 makes breathing protection more accessible, maintaining an 8-hour run time and is fully compatible with existing Dräger headpieces and hoses.
The device ensures protection against 99.95% of harmful particles, aiding with the prevention of occupational diseases such as Silicosis, Occupation Asthma, Cancer, Allergies, Respiratory Disease and Asbestosis.
Its simple, clean design marks a new direction for PAPRs, merging new technology, user-centred design, and exceptional breathing protection.
Existing PAPRs are often difficult to clean due to their complex designs and detailing. In response, this new unit introduces a simple, pebble-like form that minimises part lines and dirt traps, making cleaning and maintenance effortless.
The streamlined yet robust design demonstrates Dräger’s distinctive design DNA with its light blue interaction point and a single, crisp chamfer.

The design emphasises simplicity, empowering users to protect themselves effectively while working in demanding conditions.
The design integrates a replaceable filter that extends the smooth, rounded form, emphasising both the device’s robustness and the Dräger signature style. A single chamfer adds an elegant touch, reinforcing the unit’s durable and functional nature.
The user interface is minimalistic, with the trademark light blue accents breaking up the soft, wipeable surfaces.
The lightweight design enhances freedom of movement for all-day comfort. The option to choose between a belt or backpack further personalises the fit, allowing users to work comfortably.
The primary purpose of the X-plore 8300 is to deliver clean, breathable air to wearers. It exceeds the industry standard by providing selectable airflows up to 210l/min, in addition to the legislative standard of 170l/min, making physically demanding work easier and more comfortable.
Additionally, competitor feedback highlighted a common issue with filters being easily dislodged during use. The X-plore 8300 addresses this with a hose-interlock system that securely holds the filter in place.

A true standout against its competitors, it has an integrated, rechargeable battery design. This reduces the unit’s size and weight, making it more compact and user-friendly.
The integration of the rechargeable battery also contributes to the unit’s impressive IP67 rating, enabling it to be safely and efficiently cleaned using an industrial dishwasher – a key advantage over other PAPRs.
Ease of cleaning is essential to prevent the buildup of harmful particles, such as asbestos, ensuring that the unit remains effective over time.
Additionally, the X-plore 8300 offers an 8-hour shift run time, fast charging capabilities, and the convenience of a 5-device multi-charger, making it ideal for working environments where multiple PAPRs are required.
The unit has been designed and engineered for exceptional robustness, featuring a rounded, edge-free form and constructed from one of the most durable, impact-modified glass-filled nylons available.

Advanced moldflow analysis was employed to optimise fibre orientation, reinforcing critical areas to withstand repeated shocks and stresses in harsh environments. This precision engineering ensures that the PAPR remains lightweight yet highly resilient, offering long-term durability.
Dräger’s design thus balances toughness with sustainability, reducing the need for frequent replacements and supporting a longer product lifecycle.
The X-plore 8300 is designed with serviceability in mind, ensuring a long lifespan and enhanced sustainability. Key sub-assemblies, such as the battery, blower unit, PCBs, seals, and housing, are all designed to be easily replaced.
This allows for efficient repairs and part replacement, extending the operational lifespan of the device. These sub-assemblies are offered as spare parts through the Dräger service team.
The materials have been carefully selected to meet cleaning/decontamination requirements, maximising the product’s durability.
By allowing users to replace essential components rather than the entire unit, it not only reduces waste, but also enhances the device’s long-term value, making it a more sustainable solution.
