Minh Tan, Ha Giang, Vietnam
Blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, 1+1>2 Architects have completed a school building, located in Minh Tan on a high mountain with terraced fields and blocky roofs firmly attached to its surroundings.
The Lung Vai School project has been awarded a 2023 International Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The materials are used very economically and the beauty and the poetry of the buildings come in one way, considering the existing conditions, respected, and integrated.
The small school on the remote hill is a perfect example, one modest construction gets the value to one special flower in the high to the wild beautiful landscape.
It’s interesting to think how this project was done with a metallic structure that has value to some traditional expression.
Some projects have the spirit of the place the “locus.”
This school of the hill has this unique quality.
Even the name of the project “small school in a remote area” is full of literary suggestions.
The school on the hill gives an atemporal feeling and contributes to the understanding of the place and its history.
It also has one special sensible understanding of the roof like a shelter.
