Osaka, Japan
Set on a 3500 square meters plot, Spain’s Pavilion for the 2025 EXPO in Osaka, designed by Néstor Montenegro from EXTUDIO, Enorme Studio, and Smart and Green Design, emphasizes on sustainability and circularity, using natural and recyclable materials to minimize environmental impact.
Named “The Kuroshio Current,” its design pays homage to one of the “secrets” of Spanish navigation, whose existence has endured throughout the centuries.
This current, which has forged a valuable cultural and commercial link between continents, serves as inspiration for a comprehensive experience that unites Spain and Japan.
The design will integrate art, design, gastronomy, and educational elements to offer a comprehensive experience that reflects Spain’s commitment to addressing future challenges.
The design team was selected in the public competition organized by the Spanish Cultural Action (AC / E), the institution responsible for representing the country in Universal and International Expositions.
Like the ocean, the pavilion stands out for its circular approach, using natural, sustainable, and environmentally low-impact materials, including those derived from reuse and recycling processes.
