Manufactured by Flokk AS. and designed by BIG-GAME, Hunting & Narud, and Anderssen & Voll, HÅG Celi Chair is a chair intended for collaborative spaces, addressing the diversity of our modern co-working environments and the multi-context scenario in which they function.
HÅG Celi Chair has recently been awarded a 2023 Green Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
A chair that extends from common work areas, meeting rooms, and canteens, to conference environments, it is configurable in different material and color combinations to fit these alternative contexts.
Therefore, to satisfy a diverse set of demands, HÅG Celi was developed with sustainability as a priority, focusing on the circular use of materials along with a robust product architecture.
To achieve a long-lasting durable chair, aluminium was chosen because of its high strength-to-weight ratio.
The entire skeleton structure of the chair is made of extruded aluminium, the bottom frame which supports the main construction is made of three pieces of extruded aluminium that is welded together to form a unified skeleton.
In a close collaboration with Hydo and using their Circal line, all the aluminium used is made of 75% recycled post-consumer content.
In addition, the designers wanted the most efficient use of the recycled aluminium, so simulations were run to create a custom profile extrusion that resulted in the least amount of material used for the highest strength outcome.
The seat and backrest are made with 94% post-consumer recycled pp, available in four colors.
This option along with the aluminium that has five available finishes can be combined in multiple ways to satisfy multiple use contexts, personalized to each environment and business.
This adaptability along with the recycled content, manufactured at scale is a unique combination that allows one chair design to satisfy the needs of a dynamic and diverse set of audiences.
With the sustainability as the focus, there were no compromises when it comes to its functionality and comfort.
Stack-able of up to 12 chairs with allowance foreven more, until it becomes physically difficult to reach.
HÅG Celi Chair comes with the option of an attachable armrest.
The connection from the seat and legs are cushioned with rubber springs that provides a 20-degree range of tilt allowing a rocking motion that gives the chair an extended sense of comfort and mobility for longer periods of use.
This sense of comfort is further highlighted with detachable cushions that are 3D knitted with 100 % recycled materials for the seat and backrest, which can also be easily removed and washed.
It was fundamental the HÅG Celi was designed for long life, along with an emphasis to design construction details so that the screws are readily accessible and easy to understand.
Facilitating ease of assembly and disassembly, therefore each chair can be easily separated and recycled respectively at the end of the chair’s life cycle, returning it back into the material stream.
