Irene Kronenberg of Baranowitz + Kronenberg has designed the Spot-On Lighting System, manufactured by Andcosta, that was initially developed for the W Hotel Amsterdam: Connect & Exchange.
Spot-On Lighting System has been recently awarded the 2022 Prize Designs for Modern Furniture and Lighting Award from Global Design News and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.
The main inspiration for this ceiling light came from Amsterdam’s Post Office archive photos. One of the photos presented the pipes as having a sense of movement and purpose like they knew exactly where they are going and why.
It showed a communication machine of sorts having multiple communication pipes running through it while mounted on the wall in a meticulous artistic fashion.
That moment triggered Spot-On; a light fixture that engages with people and space that has a soul of craft and refinement which enlighten people’s senses and brings them to light exactly where they need it.
Spot-On’s design bears exactly all of these characteristics. One pipe fits all.
Spot-On brings light to each and every moment of the guests’ experience; washing, reading, browsing, and playing.
Spot-On is there where people need it, a personal light at their service.
Its omnipresence allows the ceilings to be left out of the lighting equation and perform as a white canvas that amplifies Spot-On.
There is more to Spot-On than meets the eye.
Each of its arms has been developed with a particular reflector and micro-LED bulb and anti-glare honeycomb that is designated to the specific task at hand.
It is fully dimmable and remotely controlled so that the end result would feel as simple and inspiring as the archive photo.
Spot-On is used not only in the guest rooms of the W Hotel Amsterdam but also took over the public areas, restaurants, bars, and furniture and became a spatial design motive for the entire hotel.
There are more than 5 kilometers of pipes running through the hotel, connecting people while paying homage to an analog world.
