Ciudad de México, D.F., México
Located in Mexico City, the Rio Nilo 47 residential project by Alvear Arquitectos consists of a two-volume building of 72 apartments, within an 18-story structure with many common areas, such as a barbecue area, a children’s area, a walking circuit, among other amenities.
The Rio Nilo has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Awards Honorable Mention by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
There are four apartments per floor in the tower, and 4 townhouses integrated with a segment of an old house and façade.

The interesting thing about this project is that it aims to rescue and restore the façade of an antique dwelling at the same time.
Nowadays, it is sought to preserve the cultural heritage of Mexico, for historical or aesthetic reasons; due to this fact, the project as a whole seeks to integrate the old façade from the twentieth century as a part of this twenty-first-century project.
The aforementioned house was transformed into the main pedestrian entrance to the whole complex and coexists in harmony between the new and the old.
