HP Design just released the new HP Elite Dragonfly G3, an ultra-lightweight yet powerful notebook with an emphasis on sustainability, security, and facilitating conferencing experiences.
The HP Elite Dragonfly G3’s design and sustainable concept recently won a 2022 Green Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The design starts with a spirit of craftsmanship in the use of lightweight chassis material, magnesium.
Fashioned through a precise manufacturing process and sustainably-minded, the magnesium used in HP Dragonfly is post-industrially recycled with select internal components manufactured from reclaimed ocean-bound plastics and keycaps from recycled polycarbonates. As much as 75% of Dragonfly is made from recycled material.
The HP Elite Dragonfly G3 is oxidized in a beautiful deep blue color.
The CNC-machined magnesium allows a very thin coating to look its best.
The coating is an MAO (micro-arc-oxidation) process that gives a 70-80-micron-thin Dragonfly Blue finish instead of 220-microns-thick-like painted surfaces.
The oleophobic surface prevents an un-even appearance from finger oils.
The magnesium trackpad surround and branding are co-molded with aluminum and then machined and polished so that most of the machine is made of magnesium.
HP Design makes the shape more inclusive and welcoming to a wider range of users.
The sides of the laptop have changed from previous years and are now rounded surfaces to make it easier to hold, easier to open and use.
Instead of a defined keyboard well, the sides of the laptop gently transition down to the keyboard surface.
The corners of the machine are mitered, with a defined crisp edge where the sides meet.
The key caps are larger and closer together, to make typing more comfortable.
The key caps letters are in higher contrast, making them easier to read.
The screen is now a 3:2 ratio, giving the user more vertical space for work, creativity, and entertainment.
The HP Elite Dragonfly G3 is unapologetically a laptop, with a display pushed to the edges, so the focus is on the parts of the machine the user interacts with—screen, keyboard, and trackpad.
The 5-megapixel camera helps users look their best when on video calls.
The Haptic trackpad gives the user positive feedback when clicked, without physically moving.
HP designers have rethought collaboration, and how the wireless charging pen and dual-edge microphones at the top of the display help the user with voice computing and pen computing as the way we interact with machines to create isn’t limited to the keyboard.
