Ankara Aerospace Specialized Organized Industry Zone commissioned Kerem Yazga of Yazgan Design Architecture Inc. to design its OIZ Office in the capital of Turkey for administrative personnel and the board of directors.
The idea of integrating nature into the work environment was the driving factor that inspired the design and organized the program for this atypical office building.
Spaces are arranged in programmatic clusters that are then integrated with inner gardens.
The gardens make sure that natural light reaches every corner of the building, blurring the distinction between inside and outside.
OIZ Office has recently been awarded a 2023 Green Good Design by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Each office table faces an inner garden and visual continuity is achieved through transparency, while ideal dimensions and clear division for different functions are maintained.
The effect of seasonal changes can be observed from the inside: from the illumination of the snow to the ever-changing shadows of the trees throughout the day.
The courtyards also ensure natural ventilation for the building.
The clusters are organized as such: conference hall and meeting hall cluster, the cluster of offices for different departments, VIP rooms cluster, and cafeteria cluster.
The depth of the clusters is utilized in such a way that the areas which do not require natural light, such as services and the conference hall, are located either at the central core or inner edge.
A continuous slab unites the clusters underneath and creates a free-flowing interior plaza that accommodates a small cafe, seating areas, and the foyer of the conference hall.
The structural system of the building serves a double function: columns and beams that carry the roof are joined as frames with the reverse beam system so that they can be turned into urban furniture/seating benches serving the building users.
