Foshan, China
Located in a key development area of the city center, The Gaiety by TWAD Design for C&D and Power China is a new addition to a new wave of eco-civilized development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Based on local cultural context and the concept of “back to simplicity, back to nature,” the project employs a minimalist approach to portray a space full of imagination.
The architects applied extracted design elements, minimalist expressions, and three-dimensional superimposed design techniques to a single block.
By cutting, bending, and stretching, the team endowed the architecture with more functional and artistic value.
The Gaiety has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The semi-open demonstration area provides a broader view and expresses the harmonious symbiosis of people, architecture, and nature.
The linking corridor is complemented by a dynamic waterscape, which enables people to feel a sense of vitality when walking between the dynamic and still scenes.
Building, water surface, sunken space, and vertical greenery create the experience of walking in the valleys and by the lakeside.
Located in the core area of Beijiao New Town, Shunde District, Foshan City–a base for high-tech manufacturing–the project is as close to Guangzhou’s downtown areas as Panyu and Baiyun.
As a key development area of the city center, Beijiao New Town is expected to become a paradigm of eco-civilized manufacturing cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The project is backed by the well-developed manufacturing sector in the region.
In order to make the stone curtain wall, natural stone materials were selected to echo the design concept of building like a mountain.
The design team carried out several rounds of discussions with the manufacturer about splicing techniques to ensure the exquisite details of the stone wall.
The elegant, delicate stone panels wrap around transparent glass, resembling a flawless crystal cut from a raw stone.
The sculpture of the patented image of “Time Rabbit” is inserted into the “Green Valley” garden.
Together with the vertical ecological design, a multi-dimensional, innovative, artistic garden that integrates scenery, emotion, and ambiance is created.
From design to construction, the architects collaborated with the client, landscape, and interior designers to continually optimize every detail and strive for perfection.
In the end, a demonstration area with purity and elegance was created.
The demonstration area is semi-open, which provides a broader view and expresses harmony among people, architecture, and nature.
At the front square, the design team created a borderless waterscape, on which shadows, the moon, and the stars are reflected, creating a poetic view.
The building floats on water and perfectly integrates with the landscape, which improves the harmony and identity of urban forms while enriching the visual experience.
The children’s activity area on the underground floor not only adds a touch of liveliness to the venue but also provides a place for children’s innocence to blossom.
From the underground children’s area to the sunken ‘Green Valley’ garden, and further to the curved bridge extending upward, visitors can enjoy the twisting structure, layered garden greenery, borderless waterfall, and bouncing stones in the water.
