Euclid Side Table by Timothy Hardman of THDesigns is a handmade piece of furniture made of wood and powdered coated metal whose simplicity of design allows the materials to breathe and lets the user appreciate them.
For its edgy design, Euclid Side Table has recently been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The designer, Timothy Hardman, believes the materials should be a focal point of the design, and as such, has chosen to use highly figured walnut wood as the backbone for the piece and brass discs for the shelves.
The piece features three brass discs that mount into hand-cut slots in the wooden, triangular backbone.
The bottom disc is screwed into the walnut backbone for stability, while the top two discs are able to freely rotate.
This component of the design allows the user to arrange the discs in any way they want and provide additional usage as well as an interactive component to the piece.
Hardman believes one way to get people to connect with design is through interaction and has tried to incorporate these themes wherever possible into his work.
The discs measure 6.5, 11, and 16” in diameter and the wooden backbone measures 34” tall
