Xuhui, Shanghai, China

The Ring·Live in Shanghai’s Caohejing zone serves as the core area of the Galaxy Midtown project—the inaugural international community centre in Shanghai and heralded as the “Community Flagship” of the Xuhui district.
Conceived as an ideal future-ready project, The Ring·Live is envisioned as a people-centric model for Xuhui district’s urban renewal, realising the vision of “community care, care for the community, good life within a shared community”.
The Ring·Live by DP Architects, won an 2026 International Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.
Inspired by Singapore’s “cellular” community model of spatial organisation in its community hubs, the project was guided by the principle of people-oriented design.

The Ring·Live drew experience from Singapore’s pioneering model of integrated hub, Our Tampines Hub, by integrating multiple functions such as office, retail, cultural entertainment, sports and others in one space.
By optimising programme functions and enhancing spatial quality, the design strives to create a boundless, one-stop and multi-functional integrated living community hub or “Life Lab”.
Spanning two plots of land, the development encompasses six core functions—retail, culture, public services, sports, office, and residential—and connects to an art centre via above-ground and underground footbridges, forming a closed-circuit complex.
Through careful spatial planning and integration, diverse programmatic functions are seamlessly linked to create synergistic connections.

Boosting the visibility of each programme and stimulating intersecting user activities, the layout enhances spatial vitality, enriches user experience and unlocks the area’s commercial value.
In addition, the design tapped into the rich landscape and cultural resources of the surroundings, connecting the adjacent public buildings through multiple bridges to create an accessible pedestrian loop. Coupled with the highly integrated functions attracting the population, The Ring·Live will also play the role of a transit-oriented development (TOD) once the future connection to Metro line 15 is completed, further enhancing the connectivity and convenience of the international community centre.
Prioritising holistic spatial planning, The Ring·Live seeks to foster harmony between people, architecture and the environment.
