The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design have announced the winners of the Europe 40 Under 40® for 2020, the world’s rising figures in the field of architecture and design and their stand-out and out of box projects.
Founded in 2006, Europe 40 Under 40 is an annual initiative that spotlights the next generation of successful architects who will impact Europe’s future living and working environments, cities, towns, and rural areas in the decades to come.
Presented with The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, the program is open to all young architects, landscape architects, interior architects, urban planners, and industrial designers who are under the age of 40 as of December 31, 2020 and who are working independently or in a firm or on a specific project where they are the lead designer.
This is a prestigious program for young professionals in design to achieve much needed recognition for their talent and to showcase their works to their peers and to the public.

The Selection Process
The organizations state: “we are proud and honored to announce this year’s Europe 40 Under 40 Awards’ Jury and our collaboration with the Academic Members of the Department of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic.”
The forty architects and designers of 2020 were selected after careful evaluation of each of their projects by prestigious architects, professors at the Czech Technical University (CTU) – Department of Architecture in Prague, Czech Republic.
“Europe 40 Under 40,” states Ioannis Karalias, Museum Vice President, The Chicago Athenaeum, “is an annual awards program designed to celebrate the next new talented generation of European architects. The program is directed to support new and emerging design talent that will influence the near future of European architectural design, thinking, and theory with the direct result of impacting future environments and future European and international cities. The key is to bring wider recognition to 40 of the most promising emerging architects working in the European Union and other countries inside Europe, fostering and encouraging new talent and new creative thinking at the forefront of the profession today.”
An exhibition of this year’s Europe 40 Under 40 laureates takes place this summer at The European Center’s Contemporary Space Athens in Athens, Greece.
A catalogue too has been published by Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd.
The deadline for Europe 40 Under 40 for 2021 is December 1, 2021.
