In 2025, new watch designs by designers in Switzerland, Germany, and India were selected by a distinguished jury comprised of leading designers and manufacturers for the prestigious Good Design Awards, organized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.
Jean-Marie Schaller, CEO and Creative Director of Les Ateliers Louis Moinet, has reinvented the design heritage of the first chronograph watch designed by this historic company in Switzerland in 1816, winning a 2025 Good Design Award.

The new 1816 Chronograph, based on the original from Louis Moinet, takes a deep dive into over 200 years of design history through a timepiece exhibiting a resolutely contemporary style.
The DNA of Moinet’s compteur de tierces, which with its sober, functional, and, for its time, avant-garde design, re-emerges in every detail.
The aesthetic codes of the original model have been given a totally new interpretation, but one that is always in keeping with traditional haute horlogerie.
The whole ensemble forms a timeless haute-horlogerie timepiece.

It is aimed at connoisseurs who want to wear a timepiece with strong evocative power
At the beginning of the 19th-Century, Louis Moinet originally designed his novel instrument to carry out celestial observations, which required precise calculations of the speed at which the stars moved.
This “thirds counter” (compteur de tierces) was the first of its kind and a testament to the genius of its creator.
Moreover, it was the first chronograph ever built.

Louis Moinet’s brilliant creation incorporated numerous innovations, some of which would not be repeated until a century later.
Today, the original historic timepiece is carefully preserved in the Louis Moinet Museum in Saint-Blaise, Switzerland.
Like the historic Louis Moinet Chronograph, the New Bauhaus Dessau 1925 Wristwatch, designed by Daniel Eltner of destudio eltner, takes its aesthetic cue from the historic foundations of the Bauhaus from 100 years ago also winning a Good Design Award.
Manufacturerd by Bauhaus Walter Gropius: A division of MTR24 GmbH., this exclusive series of timepieces, which takes up the colors and shapes of Lyonel Feininger’s paintings, reflects the creative and innovative philosophy of the early Bauhaus.

Feininger, a German-American painter, graphic artist and Bauhaus master, significantly shaped the visual language of the Bauhaus with his work.
The watches in the series are characterized by their clean lines, geometric shapes and a colour palette directly inspired by Feininger’s paintings.
These design elements combine functionality and beauty in a unique way, offering both collectors and design enthusiasts a piece of history and art for the wrist.

The “Christian Moriggi” watch is much more than a simple timepiece: it is a profound reflection on the perception of time and a bold reinvention of traditional watchmaking codes, winning a 2025 Good Design Award.
Featuring a fixed hand, this watch deliberately breaks away from conventions to offer a radically new approach to how we read and experience time.
Designed by Christian Moriggi Creations, the idea behind this unique design is rooted in a deep philosophy: time is not merely a linear flow to be measured but rather a mosaic of moments to be savored.
By immobilizing a hand, the “Christian Moriggi” watch invites its wearers to rethink their relationship with time and focus on the present moment.
The watch impresses with its charismatic, reduced design that combines philosophical depth with formal clarity. In its uncompromising execution, it conveys luxury as a conscious appreciation of moments–impressive, iconic, and exemplary for lasting product design.

The Sonata Gold Quartz Analog Watch, designed by Abhinav Dapke and his team at Titan Company Limited, won a 2025 Good Design Award for its handsome, simple aesthetic features a black dial, black leather strap, and an eye-catching gold coin on the dial.
The watch weaves India’s rich cultural heritage into a modern timepiece. Gold is not just a material here; it is a powerful symbol of identity, prosperity and tradition.
This collection transforms that symbolism into a form that feels both rooted and relevant for modern wearers.
Classic elements such as fluid lugs and leaf-shaped hands reference traditional watchmaking, while a crocodile-textured leather strap adds depth and refinement.
Rather than pursuing tech innovation, the collection focuses on storytelling through material and form. It turns a wristwatch into a cultural artifact; one that connects personal memory with collective identity in a way few accessories can.
