Philos is the first-ever design decanter created by Olga Fox and the whole design team at Studio Indigo along with Little Halstock craftsmen that can be used aboard a yacht for whisky distillers The Glenrothes.

This unique design object is a gimbal decanter that is created to hold the finest whisky at sea so that every drop can be saved.
It is an elegant object designed for the most luxurious yachts.
Philos combines precision craftsmanship with contemporary design.
It comes to address many complex issues related to the open seas and oceans.
While a boat is in motion, Philos stands up to waves and currents.
The descanter allows the whisky to flow smoothly even against the strongest tide.

Philos decanter is named after the Greek inventor Philo of Byzantium, who first described the workings of a gimbal in the third century BC.
Philos features a pivoted support that can rotate on three axes to keep the decanter steady on the rolling sea.
Anna Lisa Stone, head of creative for The Glenrothes, and Studio Indigo conceived Philos after meeting at a whisky tasting on the Scottish Isles.
The pair indulged in business discussions on whisky design.
The conversation finished by addressing the best way to present and preserve The Glenrothes‘ Demijohn 1969.
Its spherical structure hides its contents from the world and provides protection for them, angled at precisely 23.5 degrees to mimic the rotational axis of Earth.
Inspired by the ancient armillary spheres used in navigation, this structure is an aluminum multi-layered protection case or a fancy drinks cabinet with six interlocking layers.
