The Lyte patient lifter designed by Stefan Lippert in partnership with Invacare International is constructed to be used for Homecare as currently there is no product on the market that fits into a homely environment; all lifter to transfer patients from bed to (wheel) chair are designed to be used optimally in an institute/hospital.

The pioneering design has been awarded a 2021 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
In a homely environment the functions are limited, due to much less space in a bedroom to move around with the product and difficulties for the castors on different floor types (especially carpets).

Invacare, a global player in the development and sales of medical equipment, including patient lifters, organized a 10-week design sprint, to create, validate and conclude on a patient lifter for homecare.
UpDesign from Stuttgart supported us with creativity, concept engineering and prototyping.
Interviewing and testing with end-users, it was found out that basically all transfers happen from bed to a wheelchair (or shower-/comfort-/toilet chair).
Although with a conventional lifter two attendants are often needed, the team tested a single attendant solution.
