The STAM table collection, designed by Sami Kallio in 2022 in collaboration with Gemla, is a refined exploration of material, structure, and tradition. Rooted in the historic technique of sand-cast iron, the design reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship while presenting a contemporary expression. Inspired by the image of a tree—firmly grounded yet reaching upward—STAM combines a solid cast-iron base with elegant ash wood elements, creating a balance between strength and lightness.
At the heart of the collection lies its ingenious construction. The base, produced in a Swedish foundry in Mölltorp, is carefully treated to resist wear and corrosion while preserving its raw, natural character. From this sturdy “root,” wooden pillars rise to support tabletops crafted from solid ash, finished with environmentally friendly hard wax oil. Despite the tabletop’s generous 30 mm thickness, its finely tuned edge profile gives it a surprising sense of visual lightness, almost appearing to float.

Functionality is central to the STAM concept. The thoughtfully designed base ensures stability without compromising legroom, making the tables equally suited for private homes, restaurants, and meeting spaces. The collection spans a wide range of formats—from compact side tables to expansive meeting tables—all unified by the same structural logic and material dialogue.
Versatility is further emphasized through variations in size, height, and finish. Available in multiple colors, the tables can adapt to diverse interiors and uses. Even the smaller “Level” side tables, offered in dimensions such as a 40 cm diameter at 50 cm height or 45 × 35 cm at 40 cm height, maintain the collection’s signature balance of robustness and elegance.
Ultimately, STAM is more than a table series—it is a study in contrasts: heavy and light, industrial and natural, traditional and modern. Through the fusion of cast iron and solid wood, Sami Kallio and Gemla have created a collection that is both grounded in heritage and expressive in form, offering a timeless yet distinctive presence in any space.
