Mohawk Group designer Stacey Gerbman and Royce Epstein—the A&D Design Director for Mohawk Group—present the new Data Tide Carpet Plank Collection, which is designed with the visualization of data sets from studies of greenhouse gases to create a series of planks celebrating the ecological influence of blue carbon, carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems.

Data Tide Carpet Plank Collection’s project recently won a 2022 Green Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Data Tide is s selection of 8 colorways that reference the confluence of estuaries, with gradations of colorways from light to dark that mimics transitioning waters.

Stacey Gerbman and Royce Epstein gathered data sets on the amount of Blue Carbon sequestered in ecosystems around the globe and then transformed the information into patterns using a custom-built data visualization tool.
Data Tide’s three styles feature a combination of solid, heathered, and twisted yarns for dimensional textures that celebrate the movement of water.
Data Tide from Mohawk, one of the largest floorcovering manufacturers in the world is a certified Living Product addressing human health, lifecycle impact, end of life, design, and more.

Specifically, with lifecycle impact, the product is carbon- and water-positive, which means through credible offsets and social impact partnerships, Mohawk Group balances an additional 5% more than the product’s footprint.
Data Tide has multiple certifications that support material ingredients and life cycle impact transparency, including a Declare Label, Health Product Declaration (HPD), and an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

Additionally, Mohawk Group is proud to support two organizations in 2022—Waterkeepers Alliance and Change the Course.
The company chose to partner with the Waterkeepers Alliance, the largest and fastest-growing non-profit organization that focuses on clean water, protecting more than 2.8 million square miles of riverways across the world while providing clean and safe water for 600 million people.

Through Change the Course, Mohawk can make an impact by restoring 350 gallons of water for every square yard of carpet/tile purchased from any collection, such as Data Tide, of the Waterways Project.
Its goal is to restore 8 million gallons of river water over the next year through sales of Waterways Project products.
