Changzhou, China
Located in the Economic Development Zone of Changzhou City, Midea ShiMao Cloud Mansion Life Pavilion, created by Shanghai PTArchitects for Midea Real Estate Holding Limited and Shimao Group Holdings Limited, is a public facility that adjoins a wetland park on the west side forming an urban wetland space along with the surrounding woodland.

Midea • ShiMao • Cloud Mansion Life Pavilion has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Awards Honorable Mention by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The first thing that the design team had in mind was how to blend the site with the park and create a harmonious coexisting relationship.
The architects have aimed to construct a building growing in the park, extend the park view into the building, and bring an upgraded park to the city.
By connecting the park, square, and streets, the design intends to blend the wetland park into the community.
The architecture features different combinations of geometric shapes and integration of the solid and void, thereby forming varying introverted spaces.

The layering of spaces was expressed by simplistic language, to fully highlight the “spirit” and character of the place.
An “intermediary space” was set at the junction area of the L-shaped building volumes.
It endows the corridor space with the attributes of transition, ambiguity, and boundary.
In addition, the void atrium also makes the space in an “intermediary” state between openness and privacy, interior and outside, the dynamic and static, thus helping enhance the continuity and harmony of different spaces.
