Scott Wilson and Jillian Tackaberry of MINIMAL and Gary Paulsen from Bernhardt Design have designed Bernhardt’s new Playbook as a versatile and balanced work-surface system that can be appropriately configured for many different environments, applications, and budgets.
Its intelligent kit of parts enables hundreds of configurations and work in conjunction with a proprietary power management system that was designed for the dynamism of the modern workplace.
The system uses a recycled PET felt PowerBay below the table and an extruded aluminum PowerTrack above the table to help with cable management.
The PowerBay hides messy cords that don’t need to be accessed on a day-to-day basis while the PowerTrack on the top surface exposes what is necessary.
The Workhub power module elegantly displays the outlets making them easy for users to find and its PET skirt provides cord storage for larger cables.
Finally, an interchangeable set of cable pucks that were designed to be easily swapped out as technology evolves, organize smaller cables on the PowerTrack and keeps them from falling through.
The Playbook system has only five unique die-cast aluminum bases that can be used in conjunction with aluminum extrusions to create hundreds of different options of varying shapes, heights, lengths and widths.
The molded PET felt power bay is also manufactured as one larger part that can then be cut to length.
The system also has a GREENGUARD certification for its low chemical emissions production methods and a Level 1 NSF certification that denotes a set of sustainability criteria.
During the design process, we took into consideration not only the end-user, but also interior designers, building managers and IT professionals.
The goal was to make each person’s job easier while also providing the end-user functionality that could help to support their day-to-day needs.
For the interior designer, it is a system that can be customized to suit their vision for the space.
With 3 different options for height, a versatile set of top profiles, and a full range of color and finish options, there is a playbook configuration for every need.
For the building manager, it’s a system with a clever set of organizational accessories that helps users keep the space looking tidy and for the IT professional, the Powerbay makes cable organization easy to manage when new installations require rerouting cables.
Many furniture items these days are designed as trend pieces with low-quality materials and construction methods, but the playbook system was designed to last.
Not only does the system use high-quality materials and construction methods, the design itself is confident but quiet.
Designed to transition through the years while creating less need to purchase new furniture and as such creating less waste.
Overall Playbook provides infinite flexibility and balances robust power integration solutions in a user-friendly design that is both physically and visually lightweight.
