Despite the simplicity, the Walking Bench designed and manufactured by the Rottet Collection is a refined piece of furniture, but dynamic and kinetic, crafted out of Carrara or Ebony marble.
The Walking Bench has been awarded a Prize Design for Modern Furniture + Lighting 2023 by Global Design News and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum for Architecture and Design.
The top of the single diagonal leg extends through the seat, defying expectations.
The Walking Bench is in either polished or honed finishes and is available in two standard sizes: 6’ wide or 12’ wide.
The bench is 17 ½” deep for comfortable seating and stands 19” high.
“Typically benches feel so static without a personality. I liked the idea of the angled legs looking as if they ‘walk’ in different ways for different lengths and applications. Visual balance is the key to composition,” says Lauren Rottet, designer at Rottet Studio.
“The longer the bench, the more legs and visual energy it has. It is designed to be a single bench or to add on to it indefinitely.”
When looking for a bench for an entry foyer for a prominent designer showhouse, the designer wanted something refined, something marble but also with a lightness to it.
It looks as if it has its own energy to walk inside or out.
Originally conceived in the 6-feet wide design for the residential setting, it is also suitable for hospitality and commercial environments with its graceful nonconformity. It can be used indoors or outdoors.
There is no front or back to the bench, it can be positioned as one pleases.
The Walking Bench is fabricated by a family-owned business to strict environmental standards.
