New York, New York, USA
New York-based architect Thomas Juul-Hansen completes Manhattan’s tallest residential building rising 850 feet over East Side, incorporating Scandinavian flair into all the luxe residences in the building.
True to Scandinavian design principles, simplicity embodies the use of beautiful natural materials, meticulously crafted and arranged according to a philosophy of artful minimalism—relying on the splendor of quality to elevate and transcend.
Incorporating natural elements and panoramic views along the riverfront, Juul-Hansen’s design is inspired by and oriented towards this unique perspective of New York.
The structure features a limestone facade at ground level, complemented by black metal-framed windows and a canopy, allowing the first six storeys to blend seamlessly with the surrounding mid-rise buildings.
After the first six stories, the building sets back and the tower begins.
The glass windows get gradually wider towards the top, with mechanical infrastructure concealed beneath a crown clad in champagne-colored stainless steel, inspired by the “old landmark structures” of New York City.
At the building’s entrance, a bronze canopy offers a warm welcome, complemented by oversized custom sconces that emit a gentle glow.
An elegant procession leads from the lobby, through the library, to the dramatic double-height atrium overlooking the Sculpture Garden, featuring a bas-relief piece designed by Juul-Hansen.
This creates a serene transition from the street to home.
Atmospheric details are carefully designed for tranquility, using a soft, inviting palette.
The tower is crowned with a pale gold frieze of geometric facets that catch changing light during the day.
At night, individual panels glisten with powerful, votive-like fixtures.
