Italian fashion leader Prada and nylon are two terms that have often been tied to one another within the fashion world, with the luxury house employing the material since 1984 throughout its range of nylon bags and a decade later with its unique take on sportswear.
Now the Italian fashion group has announced plans to launch a collection of nylon bags made from recycled plastics.
The brand’s mission is to use recycled nylon by 2021, phasing out its use of virgin nylon and further expanding its bag range with a new collection called “Re-Nylon.”
The new range will feature two backpacks, a shoulder bag, a belt bag, and more (six in total), all made from recycled ocean plastic known as Econyl, which transforms fishing nets, and textile fiber waste into usable fabric.
“I’m very excited to announce the launch of the Prada re-nylon collection. our ultimate goal will be to convert all Prada virgin nylon into re-nylon by the end of 2021,” said Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group head of marketing and communication.
“This project highlights our continued efforts towards promoting a responsible business. this collection will allow us to make our contribution and create products without using new resources.”
