Titled “Made in Africa” The brief aims to highlight the importance of designing contemporary, sustainable products that will be easily produced on the African continent for the world market.
The solution was to design a simple, elegant product acknowledging the fact that Armchairs are bulky and are very costly to transport.
Like a 3 D puzzle, each part of PLANKS is articulated to fit the other.
The armrests into the base. The seat between the armrests on the base. The backrest between the armrests, on the base.
Finally, the whole composition is secured with a single wedge. Locking the seat, and the backrest to the base. intelligently constructed to be simply packaged. And transported. And assembled.
And disassembled. And stored. No screws, no mechanical joints. No hassle!
PLANKS, as the name suggests, can be flat packed, transported in an easy, ecological responsible manner and assembled in an intelligent way.
The innovation is unspectacular. After assembly, the whole composition is secured with a single wooden wedge, simplifying assembly, disassembly, and storage. No screws, no mechanical joints. No hassle!
