Philips presents the Philips Pediatric Coaching solution for MRI, a holistic coaching solution to prepare and guide children through active learning to minimize patient anxiety before an MRI scan.
The coaching program consists of a gamified mobile app to prepare children at home; an educational toy scanner to prepare kids in the waiting room; and guidance in the bore of the MRI scanner.
Designed for giving an active learning experience for children, the Philips Pediatric Coaching has recently been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

All solution elements feature the same buddy characters (Ollie & Friends) and design elements, as well as the same voice, so kids are consistently guided from home to the scanner.
The app has been co-created with clinical experts and psychologists and features educational videos, interactive games, information for parents, and an Augmented Reality-experience.
The toy scanner is designed to have an inviting, child-friendly look while at the same time looking comparable to the real scanner.

It is easy to clean thanks to its smooth surfaces and lack of sharp edges.
The child can lie one of the dolls provided onto the table of the scanner and push it in.
With that, an engaging animated movie about the MRI scan of the character that the doll represents starts, featuring aspects like the scan procedure, noises MRI scanners make, and lying still.
The Pediatric Coaching program supports first-time-right successful scans of the vulnerable 4 to 8 years age group, using the least amount of sedatives necessary.
