The Philips Flash 5100 Point of Care (POC), introduced in 2025, represents a significant advancement in ultrasound technology designed for fast-paced clinical environments. Built specifically for use in emergency departments, intensive care units, and anesthesia settings, the system addresses the growing demand for rapid, reliable imaging at the patient’s bedside.
Philips Flash 5100 Point of Care by Philips Ultrasound, won a 2026 Green Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.

At the heart of the Flash 5100 POC is a reimagined user experience that simplifies the traditionally complex relationship between physical controls and digital interfaces. Developed in close collaboration with clinical professionals, the system enables a “walk-up-and-use” approach—allowing both experienced practitioners and less specialized users to perform efficient, high-quality exams under pressure. Its streamlined interface supports one-handed operation, an essential feature in crowded or time-sensitive medical scenarios.
The system’s compact and durable cart design enhances maneuverability, making it well-suited for dynamic healthcare settings where flexibility is critical. Despite its portability, the Flash 5100 POC delivers high-quality imaging performance across a wide range of applications, supporting clinicians in making fast and confident diagnostic decisions.

Mobility is further reinforced by its battery-powered operation, enabling real-time imaging without reliance on fixed power sources. An integrated low-power mode helps extend battery life while reducing overall energy consumption, aligning with broader sustainability goals. In addition, tele-ultrasound capabilities expand the system’s reach, allowing remote consultation and improving access to care in underserved or geographically challenging environments.
Environmental responsibility is embedded in the system’s lifecycle. The Flash 5100 POC is developed through an EcoDesign process, with shipping materials sourced entirely from Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)-certified wood and paper products. This approach reflects a commitment to reducing environmental impact without compromising performance or reliability.

Designed by teams across Bothell and Cambridge in the United States, as well as Eindhoven in the Netherlands, and manufactured by Philips in Amsterdam, the Flash 5100 POC exemplifies a global, collaborative effort to advance medical technology. By combining intuitive design, portability, and sustainability, it sets a new standard for point-of-care ultrasound—bringing critical imaging capabilities closer to the patient, wherever they are needed.
