Peter Solomon Design and Fin Fun collaborate on a comfortable new tail design that is comprised of dual materials: Copolymer Polypropylene for rigid structural details and Thermoplastic Elastomer for all soft areas.
The project has been awarded a 2020 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The Elite Mono Fin is a patent-pending innovative addition to the monofin and mermaid market.
The transmission of power is directed from the foot movements directly to the center of the fin through a pass-through PP shell that extends from under the feet to the bottom of the fin and is given further structure through the fishtail-like ribs running down the fin.
The softer foot pocket is a new ergonomic that forms for almost every foot shape within each size range and is designed to best transmit forces to the fin while cradling the foot free of pressure points or wobbling.
The ends of the fin are mainly in softer rubber allowing it to create an interesting effect in the water as the swimmer performs stunts and turns.
Ergonomic with open-toe foot pockets, the Elite Monofin is adjustable and has removable slim heel straps.
They also allow the owner to fold the fin to fit it into a standard large suitcase!
The rear heel straps were also designed to cradle the heel and keep the foot in securely and comfortably and are made in a high-grade stretchy silicone.
Fin Fun was established in 2010 by a grandmother fulfilling the dream of her granddaughter, who wanted to be a mermaid.
Since that time Fin Fun has ranked #119 on the Inc 500 list of fastest-growing companies and was recognized as a “Hot 100 Most Innovative Retailer” in 2017.
Fin Fun believes that “everyone deserves to dream,” and in addition to its popular products, Fin Fun contributes each year by donating a percentage of its profits to children’s causes around the world.
Peter Solomon’s design spends about 1/3 of the time developing a new ergonomic form and structure factor that is bound to change the way we use monofins, while its durable construction with a polypropylene skeleton provides optimum performance.
