Paul Mazzotta of the Toronto-based design firm of HUB Design Studio, Inc., has designed a new seating collection—Jax, Sol, and Mila—for California-based furniture manufacturer 9to5 Seating to meet the functional needs of today’s agile workplace.
The three unique seating designs won three recent 2020 Good Design Awards from The Chicago Athenaeum.
“The Jax Collection is all about beautiful design and comfort,” said Dara Mir, President, and CEO of 9to5 Seating.
“With Jax, we struck a balance between a strong, sculptural aesthetic, and a soft, comfortable sitting experience.”
With dramatic silhouettes and a sculptural aesthetic, the Jax Collection is a complete lounge line with high-back, mid-back and side models to create a cohesive look office-wide.

With high-back, mid-back and side options, Jax offers seating for the entire workplace with a singular design aesthetic.
Comfort was a guiding principle in the development of Jax, which was made for lobby, reception, café or collaboration areas. Jax was engineered for an ideal sit for all users.
The chair also features high-quality plush molded foam.
The high-back lounge has a wing-back for privacy and focus.
Available in mid-back lounge and side/guest options as well, Jax facilitates collaboration and socialization.
Base options are steel four-leg, wire, aluminum swivel, or five-star.
Bases come in various finishes including black, silver and polished aluminum. All models are available with contrasting upholstery.
Next the Sol, a new task chair specifically designed to meet the needs of today’s agile workplace.
Sol features a flexible back, adjustable arms and seat, engineered to support a range of working postures for users on cell phones, tablets or laptops.
Sol’s pivot-back technology was created to enable the torso rotation and side-to-side movement necessary for sharing or reading screens beyond the desktop.
It’s upwardly tapered back addresses the need for seating that allows for free movement of the shoulders and arms for users of devices of all kinds.
These innovations round out Sol’s other ergonomic design features including adjustable arms, seat, lumbar, and synchro mechanisms.
Finally, the Mila conference and executive chair enable easy ergonomic adjustment, with a mechanism that automatically adapts to each user’s weight, hidden in a contoured aluminum frame that encircles the seat and back.

arms are finished with urethane pads that are soft to the touch.
