London-based Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien’s new modular sofa designed for Danish brand Hay features a distinctive quilted motif inspired by classic sofa design and tailoring.
The Quilton Sofa is an elegant and mature take on the popular and enduring puffed furniture look.
With generous foam padding for comfort and endless module combinations, the Quilton Sofa is the ideal foundation for an inviting living space.
The sofa’s design is all about the details: there is the quilting, of course, but also additional elements such as the subtle floating base, which gives the sofa lightness.
A thin strip of material separates the sofa from the base, and the design’s configuration allows you to mix and match materials and colours on the sofa’s front, back and base, with a palette that includes textiles and leather.
Doshi Levien designed the sofa to serve as a central platform for living, working, socializing and relaxing.
With a very recognizable graphic signature, it is available in a wide range of different modules and upholsteries.

The starting point for the sofa was modularity (there are 13 available modules as well as a standalone three-seater).
In addition to the choice of shape and upholstery, there is a choice of version.
The sofa is indeed available as Quilton (one upholstery), Quilton Duo (two contrasting upholsteries) and Quilton Contrast (black base).
The quilted padding is composed of a high resilience foam base that does not lose its shape and a complement of wadding for more comfort.
Quilton can be configured for both domestic and public spaces.
Doshi Levien was founded in 2000 by Nipa Doshi (b. 1971) and Jonathan Levien (b. 1972).
Doshi grew up in India and studied at the National Institute of Design, while Jonathan, who is from Scotland, trained in fine cabinet making followed by industrial design.
They met while studying at the Royal College of Art.
They have established a strong reputation for creating design that is both technically advanced and imbued with cultural resonance.
