“Teaching and educating autonomously happen in this change and communication. […] All students’ behavior could be better merged with the environment and buildings, boundaries are broken, and imagination is released,” states Lu Zhigang principal at Minax Architects.
Lu Zhigang and his team at Minax Architects have created the new Fengxi Primary School where a multiplicity of school functions are integrated into a continuous linear volume, whose perspectives—horizontally extended—give the building a clear identity.
The project divides the site into open sports areas and enclosed courtyards.
All the masses were placed according to the interrelation of their functions, developing a basic compositional logic.
The space, designed, in this way, carries on a new kind of connection by the way of dimensional transformation.
There is a clear boundary between the solid building and the free space.
Especially in the high-density city, the interest of the space is often located in the function of the building, and it seems that it is difficult to achieve a balance between the two.
The architects adopted the layout mode of “circumference and central opening,” and consider the building a body of different functions in the school as a whole element.
The building body spreads along the base and the road, and the folded structure forms the counterpart relationship on the general picture at the same time, as the building divides the base into an open sports area.
In the movable courtyard with enclosed area, the inner area enclosed by different buildings forms a horizontally extended visual continuous space.
The roof is the most iconic element of the project and creates a unique image of the facility while hosting more teaching activities. ‘’
Between the courtyards, a set of circular corridors bring dramatic changes to the spaces.
The courtyards are built with an alternation of scale and dimensions, creating a playful and joyful atmosphere.
The main entrance is located in the southern part of the site, with a logistic entrance on the north side, and a centralized student transfer site at the main entrance of the main entrance to the southeast corner.
All functional blocks are placed on the site according to the most reasonable relationship, forming the basic logic and order.
Free space will undergo a new cohesive and cohesive form in the way of latitude transformation.
