Andblack design studio presents the LOOP series, a pioneering furniture collection defined by sculptural forms and innovative design. The collection embodies the studio’s philosophy of blending artistry with functionality, pushing design boundaries through seamless material manipulation.
Inspired by the concept of “a single surface made in a single material,” the LOOP series features doubly curved surfaces that combine structural stability, organic aesthetics, and ergonomic comfort. This design ethos replaces traditional multi-part furniture with continuous, self-supporting loops, creating dynamic and balanced forms that flow visually and functionally. The series has earned global recognition, including multiple design awards.

Highlights of the LOOP collection include bench and seater pieces with fluid continuous curves and near-touching undulations for versatile seating. The lounger and rocker redefine comfort through cantilevered, radial curves and seamless shapes that emphasize movement and structural balance. Drawing inspiration from traditional Indian tire swings, the jhoolas explore infinite circular geometries, including Mobius-like twists and spiral loops, blending complexity with simplicity.
The study series contrasts linear and curvaceous elements, combining continuous wooden surfaces with sleek metal supports. The bookshelf integrates looping forms into a sculptural grid, balancing storage and aesthetics. The bar unit and scoop console are carved sculptural pieces that use cantilevered loops and material “scooping” to create elegant lightness and lifted forms.

The chandelier series explores fluid geometries with evolving light patterns. The masque chandelier emits light through edge gaps on sinuous surfaces, while the ripple chandelier mimics water surface disturbances, casting dynamic shadows. These pieces fuse sculptural beauty with immersive visual effects.
Crafted through a hybrid process of computational design and traditional carpentry, the LOOP series merges digital precision with artisanal craft. This approach, coupled with iterative prototyping and the use of natural birch plywood with water-based finishes, supports the studio’s commitment to slow, sustainable design.

Culturally, the LOOP series connects traditional Indian craftsmanship with contemporary design thinking, empowering local artisans to innovate and improve livelihoods. This collaboration revitalizes craft in modern markets, offering environmentally and socially responsible products that stand apart from mass industrial manufacturing.

About: founded in 2012 and based in Ahmedabad, India, andblack design studio works across architecture, interiors, art installations, and furniture design. Established by Jwalant Mahadevwala and Kanika Agarwal, the studio embraces an integrated, process-driven methodology that guides every project stage from concept to detail. Their design ethos values material honesty, particularly the natural beauty and strength of birch plywood, and incorporates local craftsmanship in execution. With over 70 projects completed, andblack design studio is dedicated to creating solutions that are both iconic and meaningful, driven by parametric tools and physical modeling to evolve innovative designs.
This approach allows andblack design studio to consistently challenge itself, tailoring its robust design process to each unique project while ensuring intelligent, efficient solutions that balance creativity and functionality. The LOOP series exemplifies this philosophy, blending artistry, craft, and sustainability into a groundbreaking furniture collection.
