Seeking the ultimate mobile experience, Wei Liu and Lenovo’s Innovation Design Team has presented the Legion Y90, a gaming smartphone that is powerful, allows heavy data processing, and is also sustainable.
Legion Y90 has been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Its dual vibration motors, dual channel stereos, dual USB ports, and dual air channels are all symmetric, and the customized large screen gives users mesmerizing gaming.
The “plane window” in the center of the device, due to the central architecture, is a unique characteristic.
There are also two visible fans in the air inlet and fins in the air outlet, while two USB ports are also aligned center.
It rethinks mobile phones as the personal data center for installing more and more apps.
This leads to a heavy data processing task that leads to more and more heat produced by a chipset, especially when playing mobile games.
Excessive temperature and delay of operation make for a very poor experience.
Meanwhile, the Legion phone needed to be powerful, have a design inheritance of “Legion,” and also needed to build a strong icon in the gaming segment.
This led the designers to create the Y90 series.
To improve energy efficiency, the 68W supercharger has lower energy loss, which can reduce energy costs and extend battery life.
The design team used recyclable aluminum instead of nondegradable plastic, all of which reduce environmental pollution.
In order to make Y90 look and grasp thinner, the designers used complex curved glass with an annular bump and 3.5mm bending depth.
The “window of the plane” had to be at the center of the back cover, which wasn’t easy.
To reserve space for metal and glass bonding, the team designed the annular bulge of the glass cover.
After some experiments, the designers pushed the supplier to make limit the bending depth of quartic surface glass reach 3.5mm.
The body of Y90 is more concise and coordinated.
Legion Y90 is completely different from other mobile phones, due to its unique glass bending technique.
Benefiting from the central architecture, Y90 has a direct cooling system which has been proven to be the most efficient.
Dual USB ports give convenience to horizontal and vertical use when charging.
Dual front speakers with super large sound cavities can’t be covered up by hands, and even the holes are well-designed.
Although the device is unique, the designers wanted it to look simple and more acceptable to users.
The performance for LEGION users is clearly visible, building a stronger icon in the gaming phone market.
