Kohler partners with the artist Pushpa Kumari as part of the brand’s 150th anniversary and presented Aranya, a limited-edition collection inspired by India’s traditional style of painting.
For marring art with manufacturing craftsmanship, the Aranya collection has been awarded a 2023 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Aranya, which means Forest, became a theme that inspired Pushpa Kumari to craft 19 artworks in the Mithila style depicting various trees and the vibrant flora and fauna.
Using only a pen and ink on paper, she envisioned a culturally rich and observant world, infused with intuitive sensitivity.
Despite being deeply rooted in the traditional Indian style of Mithila, the artwork goes beyond cultural boundaries and resonates with audiences across the globe.
Its universal appeal lies in its ability to transcend cultural and geographical barriers, captivating viewers from diverse backgrounds.
The Kohler team in order to bring these artworks to life on their products, transformed her hand-drawn elements into high-resolution scans. These scans were then skilfully composed onto the Numi 2.0, Brazn sink, and Brazn bathtub, ensuring that the compositions harmonized with the forms of our products.
Pushpa Kumari was one of the four artists, each recognized for their boundary-breaking artistic practices, that Kohler chose to decorate their 150th anniversary collection.
Each product within the collection will be offered in a quantity of 150, honoring Kohler’s anniversary year. This new Artist Editions collection celebrates women of exceptional talent and diverse backgrounds.
Additionally, in celebration of our 150th anniversary, the Kohler team incorporated heritage colors into the compositions, further enhancing their significance.
