Athens, Greece
“For the design of Marina Galleria, we had the unique opportunity to combine different elements and materials from the Greek landscape through a modern design approach. Thus, a new typology was created: a state-of-the-art commercial destination, open to the sea, the sun, and the Greek landscape,” notes Aris Kafantaris, Architectural Design Director at the Kengo Kuma & Associates.
Kengo Kuma and his team at Kengo Kuma & Associates have released designs for the new retail Marina Galleria for LAMDA Development—one of new The Ellinikon landmarks and architectural reference points at the Agios Kosmas area that will become a lifestyle destination of unique sophisticated architecture.
“Thanks to its premium location, its high-end architecture, and its connection with the water element, as well as the multifaceted experience it will offer visitors, Marina Galleria will be a new-generation destination, unique by Greek standards,” states LAMDA Development’s Chief Development Officer for Marina Galleria, Melina Paizi.
Kengo Kuma gets inspired by the Greek sea to design the whole retail development that will comprise shops, coffee shops, and restaurants all accessible to people with disabilities, offering breathtaking sea views.
The core element of Kuma’s vision is the Ripple, a flowy canopy designed to mimic sea waves covering the Marina Galleria structure allowing natural light to enter the interior space.
The Marina Galleria is a model of sustainable development with unprecedented aesthetics, in complete harmony with the environment, showcasing the heavenly beauty of the landscape.
The implementation of environmental and energy principles and the selection of suitable materials are the pillars of a holistic sustainability strategy for this project.
Natural ventilation and lighting, the use of photovoltaic panels and the selection of rainfall water are some of the sustainable features of the Marina Galleria.
The main idea is the combination of functional requirements of an organized commercial complex with an open coastal location and the extrovert Mediterranean lifestyle.
Greenery is prominent in all outdoor spaces, thus bringing you closer to Greek nature and helping you relax in the shade and coolness provided by the trees.
Covering a total area of 6,200,000 sq.m., The Ellinikon project will constitute a new point of reference, a new destination for the city of Athens. This is a project addressed to everyone and one that includes plenty of landmarks.
LAMDA Development’s planning for the redevelopment of the Ellinikon coastal zone includes several iconic landmarks and destinations, highlighting the area’s unique natural beauty and the significant growth potential of the Athens Riviera as a leading, year-round, global tourist destination.
