Spain-based illustrator and designer Isidro Ferrer creates the new member of LZF’s life-size lighting family — Big Bird Horizontal — using a traditional craft technique called vareta, currently used for Las Fallas festival in Valencia.
The lighting design has been awarded a 2021 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Hovering horizontally with fluttering wings, Big Bird has the agile appearance of a gentle hummingbird. Light radiates from within Big Bird’s wooden plumage and an illuminated globe hangs from its beak, like a ball of glowing nectar.
As a new member of LZF’s Life-Size family, Big Bird (horizontal) joins the happy adventures of Elephant, Fish and Koi.
With Big Bird, LZF is once again dreaming big, reengineering the concept of what a lamp can be in both shape and scale.
