“One evening in the studio’s fablab, surrounded by the prototypes realized for the participation to the ‘Fuorisalone’ event at Super Studio, we were watching at one in particular,” states Studio Habits.
“We had been trying for some time to develop a textile floor-to-ceiling lamp. We had spools of elastic braces used for the floor-to-ceiling prototype, and thinking about how to exploit their mechanical properties, we thought that elasticity could become a metaphor of the intensity for an innovative experience in terms of the modulation of the light.”
Designed by Innocenzo Rifino and Diego Rossi of Studio Habits, “Elastica” is a band of elastic fabric holds the dimmable LED strip in combination with a cylindrical base made of metal and a ceiling bracket.
Everything rotates around the idea of the natural interaction created between the lamp and its user. The sensors recognize people’s instinctive gestures and poetically translate them, turning the lamp on and off and modulating the intensity of the light.
The soft, flexible, and interactive light connect the floor to the ceiling; a flexible, fluid way with just a strip of light.
You can change its position; play, experiencing the pleasure of touch to discover how soft light is.
On the one hand, it illuminates thanks to the flexible LED circuit; on the other hand it marks the interior with colorful lines.
Only gentle gestures are needed for control—sensors recognize the user’s hand movement and coordinate the lighting accordingly—it can be switched on and off with a quick hand movement.
Make a quick gesture downward and it will light up.
If the LED strip is also pressed lightly, the intensity of the light dims.
The design of Elastica can be selected in the colors red, yellow, grey, black and blue.
In combination, exciting structures are created in the room in the truest sense of the word.
