Designed by Adrián Larripa of bigD’s Industrial Design Department for Focke Meler Gluing Solutions, RAPTOR Handy is a hose-pumped hot-melt adhesive applicator with ideal ergonomics for a comfortable and versatile application.
For its ergonomic design, has recently been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
With bigD in charge of the industrial design of the product, the result is a combination of technical requirements with carefully studied and tested ergonomics.
This product has two models, with upper hose entry and lower hose entry, to provide a solution to all possible places of use.
The design incorporates a suspension system that helps the user carry the weight of the applicator and hose, providing comfort in use.
In addition, it has a locking system and a protective handle to give the user safety during the application of molten adhesive.
In order to find the most ergonomic solution, the design of the handle resulted from a series of many formal iterations.
A suspension system was integrated into the design of the applicator to lighten the weight of the hose, making work more comfortable for hours.
Applicator design includes a manual lock to prevent potential accidents and misuses.
The design of the parts that house the union between the applicator and the hose are textured to create a visual continuity between the hose and the applicator.
Another differentiating aspect of the applicator design is the incorporation of a Bluetooth module that transmits the data reported by the applicator to the equipment.
The blue-tooth communication module offers information on the status of the applicator in real-time.
The designers have created two sets of housings, one for the top entry of the hose and one for the bottom entry.
In this way, the product adapts to the specific needs of each user.
Regardless of the type of hose inlet, the part that connects the hose to the RAPTOR Handy can rotate 360º.
Incorporating this part into the applicator design favors the usability of the product for all types of users.
The manufacture of all the parts is carried out with the same polymer, which is advantageous for a more seamless recycling process.
In addition, the design is easily disassembled, which is important for separating plastic parts from mechanical components.
