Hout is a refined lounge and chair family that seamlessly combines the timeless warmth of wood with a distinctive, modern silhouette. Designed by the renowned Stockholm-based studio After room, Hout reflects a thoughtful balance of simplicity, comfort, and sustainability.
Its sculptural form and inviting presence make it an ideal statement piece for today’s evolving workplace, effortlessly enhancing both collaborative and quiet spaces.
Hout exemplifies the enduring beauty of natural materials while supporting a more mindful, design-forward approach to contemporary interiors.

Hout Lounge and Chairs byAfteroom won a 2025 Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.
Inspired by classic A-frame architecture, Hout features a dynamic triangular wooden base that serves as both visual anchor and structural foundation, supporting a softly curved seat and back.
The eye is naturally drawn to the sculptural armrests, crafted from single pieces of formed plywood, where clean lines meet in a harmonious focal point. Complemented by the softly upholstered seat with rounded edges, the design achieves a balance of visual lightness and inviting comfort.
Design and sustainability haven’t always gone hand in hand. As designers increasingly prioritise softer finishes and natural, responsible materials, the need for furniture that reflects these values has become more urgent yet the market has been slow to respond.

Hout bridges that gap. Combining modern aesthetics with sustainable design, it’s crafted using minimal materials and a lightweight structure that reduces environmental impact.
The result is a soft, sculptural collection that’s both functional and beautiful—bringing warmth and clarity to contemporary workspaces.
The Hout lounge features a relatively upright back, which lends itself to casual meeting spaces, while the attached seat and back cushions add even more softness and visual appeal.
The Hout side chair features a fully upholstered seat body and slightly firm sit making it ideal for focused settings like desks or conference rooms.
In keeping with Keilhauer’s deep commitment to responsible and sustainable design, every aspect of Hout has been thoughtfully developed with the wellbeing of our planet in mind.

From sustainably sourced materials and responsible manufacturing to carefully planned end-of-life strategies, environmental impact is considered at every stage of the process.
Through the Design for Environment program, a range of criteria were evaluated across the product’s entire lifecycle: from raw material origin through production, use, and final disposal. Measurable goals were set for each stage and integrate them into the design and manufacturing process.
Hout is carbon neutral, built with FSC-certified wood to promote sustainable forestry, and meets the highest standards for environmental and indoor air quality through BIFMA LEVEL 3, SCS Indoor Advantage Gold, and GreenHealth Approved certifications.
Like all Keilhauer products, Hout is shipped from zero-waste-to-landfill facilities that offset 100% of electricity use with renewable energy credits. Keilhauer’s sustainability policies align with UN Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9, 11, 12, and 13, with a formal pledge outlined on the SDG Actions Platform.
