Vienna, Austria
Barbara Holzer, Tristan Kobler and their team from Holzer Kobler Architekturen were appointed to design an additional building to the existing Sigmund Freud University establishment that had already created in Vienna, Austria.
The design of this building by Holzer Kobler Architekturen was short-listed for a 2021 International Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The new building at the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna offers ideal learning conditions for the students of medicine, dentistry, and law.
It houses lecture halls, seminar rooms, laboratories, faculty office spaces, and a banquet hall.

The ground floor is designed to create a welcoming atmosphere and becomes the building’s central heart as the entrance area as well as a public courtyard, enlivened by several shops.

The spatial organization of Messestrasse II, as well as the academic and medical infrastructure, correspond to the international standards and demands of current university buildings.

Wrapped in a golden metal facade, the sculptural building formation corresponds with the existing University campus and fits harmoniously, yet distinctively, into the neighbourhood.
