Ely Rozenberg, Lorenzo Frollini, Francesca Romana Rossi, Arianna Ludovica Frollini, and Tommaso Ferrini from the Italian fintech startup Flywallet present the Keyble – a wearable device that incorporates biometric authentication capabilities allowing users to make contactless payments and use digital services.
Flywallet proposes the “Biometric Wearable Platform as a Service”, a platform that connects, thanks to the wearable, different ecosystems.
The project has been awarded a 2021 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The device, Keyble, is a new type of wearable that adapts to the user’s lifestyle.
It consists in a smart module that can be inserted into fashion accessories such as bracelets or watch straps and is equipped with biometric sensors for user authentication and to monitor their health.
Through the fingerprint or the ECG heartbeat authentication, the user enables payments in stores, passwordless logins to online services, ticketing for public transport, loyalty cards, access to gyms, offices and homes, car door locks and digital identity.
Security is based on cryptography at the hardware level thanks to a Secure Element. The user’s identity is verified by means of biometric authentication, all communication takes place via contactless (NFC) or Bluetooth or via QR Codes shown on the Amoled display; the devices can communicate securely with the companion application and the Wearable Platform.
The process of enrolling biometric data on the wearable is carried out in a secure environment through the companion app and by verifying the identity of the user, thus ensuring that only the real owner can use Keyble, which is not guaranteed by smartphones, for example, which do not allow for a certain match between the owner and the stored biometric data.
The Platform includes the 1st wallet in the world for biometric wearable enabled tokenization of payment cards.
The device can monitor users’ vital parameters and make medical-grade analysis for cardiac arrhythmias, blood oxygen saturation and body temperature, in Q1 2022 is expected the reaching of Medical Device Certification.
Flywallet will adopt a Circular Business Model aimed at Partners Issuers, Banks, Insurance Companies & Firms, that resell to final users. Partners will pay a one-time fee for the wearable and then recurring fees on the basis of digital services activated.
After the commercial lifetime of the product, the Partners will give back to us the devices so we can recycle the materials for producing the new models.
In this way, the Partners will receive a discount on the new models and we will be able to produce more sustainable products.
The wearable is created with eco-sustainable materials and inspired by made-in-Italy fashion, the case in aluminum and recycled plastic, and the straps are made in recycled marble powder fabric, recycled microfiber, apple skin, and cactus skin.
