Sagaponack, New York, USA
Located steps from the Atlantic Ocean in Sagaponack, NY this contemporary Pink Pool House by Roger Ferris + Partners is a perfect escape residence containing a small 1,500 square-foot shingle-style surf shack and an above-ground pool: a refined interpretation of the suburban American Dream.
The Pink Pool House has been recently awarded a 2023 American Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The seamless pink Corian pool perched atop a grassy field is intended to reflect the pale rose-colored sky during dawn and dusk that is so familiar in Sagaponack.
The new adjacent pool house, complete with three levels, is an extension and response to the linear pool, creating an exclamation point to the collection of buildings.
Its contemporary design is a dramatic counterpoint to its neighboring cottage, while the small scale, subtle lines, and color allow it to recede into the composition.
The form is clad in a metal high gloss panel, perfectly matching the subtle color of the adjacent pool.
The 13-foot cantilever offers a bird’s eye view of the pink pool from the upper level.
This minimalist, 500 square foot structure above grade provides a pool kitchenette, and a stair to the upper perch that has floor-to-ceiling glass providing stunning views as well as allowing natural light to flow into the building.
Below grade, a 900-square-foot open space serves as an art gallery and painting studio for peaceful inspiration and a meditation escape.
A mirror-clad light well reflects light into the space, providing even natural northern light to the studio.
From the ground, this mirrored cladding disappears into the landscape as it reflects the greenery around it.
The roof of the pool house features green lush vegetation, reducing heat and providing a filter for the rainwater.
Although the property is complete with a main house for hosting and gathering, the pink pool house has been the main attraction to the land.
