Al Garhoud, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The Multi-storey Carpark project for Dubai Municipality Multistory is a zero-energy building and specialized project where the latest technologies to rationalize energy consumption were applied (parking management, ventilation systems, LED lighting, and renewable energy).
The Multi Storey Parking Building won a recent 2021 Green Good Design® Award from The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum.
500 kilowatts of PV panels utilized as shade structure to cover the building energy demands besides the utilization of electrical vehicle chargers, energy-efficient air-conditioning, LED lighting, lighting control, VFD drives, and efficient elevators.
Al-Garhoud multi-story car park building was designed according to Dubai Green Building Regulation. Referring to the latest DEWA invoices, the building consumed 149 MWhr during the last 12 months, while the production of the PV system reaches 339 MWhr of clean energy.
The savings of electricity consumption estimated at AED 56,650 in addition to AED 72,120 of exported energy to the grid. Furthermore, the PV system contributes to avoiding carbon emissions of 143.7 tons annually. This is equivalent to the planting of 3,729 trees or avoids using 554,464 cars annually.
The simplicity of the building design, utilization of the green technologies, and the challenges faced by the project team during the construction phase, all considered as a reason for participating and for competing to obtain the award.
The building contains a ground floor and five typical floors and roof; the ground floor includes the main entrance, school buses parking (large and medium-size), in addition to bicycle parking and services rooms. In addition to parking, it contains a bridge linking the multi-story carpark building and the Dubai Municipality building Office Building.
